Extract from Salmon's map of Nottingham, 1861.

There are many maps available at Local Study Libraries and the Nottingham Archives that show detailed information regarding where your ancestors lived.  Some examples are Tithe maps, Enclosure maps, Estate maps and Ordnance survey maps which, began in 1844.

You can also refer to late nineteenth century maps online at www.old-maps.co.uk and http://www.londonancestor.com/maps/bc-notting-s.htm these are particularly useful in identifying places that have long since disappeared. You can also view a map of all Nottinghamshire parishes at http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/NTT/ParishMap.html and maps of Nottinghamshire places at http://www.yourmapsonline.org.uk/nottinghamshire.htm
