Photographic

Old photographs are a great way to see how people lived in the past. Most Local Study Libraries hold photographic collections, however most of these are being put onto a searchable online database at http://www.picturethepast.org.uk/.  On the border of Nottinghamshire there is also the Long Eaton and Sawley Archive http://www.archive.long-eaton.com/default.asp

Film & Video

The Media Archive for Central England is based in Nottingham, they are a recognised body responsible for collecting, preserving and making accessible the moving image heritage of the East and West Midlands. http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/film/mace/

Artistic

There have been many excellent artists that have captured Nottingham life over the years, Thomas William Hammond is one such artist whose paintings and sketches can be viewed in the publication ‘A City in the Making Drawings of Nottingham’ published by Nottingham City Museums and the Nottingham Civic Society http://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/sitemap/leisure_and_culture/museumsandgalleries.htm
